寝起きは悪いが気持ちを切り替えて出社。夕方、海外駐在員が現地で急逝されたとの情報が入り、部内が騒然となる。面識はないが入社年次で言ったら2年しか違わない。自宅で突然倒れて帰らぬ人になった由。直ちに社長にまで報告が上がり、外出中の部長にも連絡が入る。人事部が緊急態勢を敷いて対応することに。いつかは終わる旅であり、いつかはめくられる最終ページが存在するのが人生ではあるのだが、言葉にならない気持ちがこみ上げてくる。ご本人の無念は勿論のこと、残された人たちの気持ちは察するに余りあるものがある。
